Treatment with aromatherapy, although new, is not that weird of a concept. Smells are not just smells to our brains, they are much more than that. For example, smells are what gives food flavors, and without them foods are just salty, sweet or bitter. Moreover, smells are associated with certain memories as well. For example, the smell of lemon or soap in general is associated with feelings of cleanness and the smell of garbage is associated with feeling unclean or unhealthy. Therefore, smells and scents are a power that can do wonders if harnessed correctly. Here are some scents and smells that can make you feel better.
- Jet fuel. Well, I am not recommending that you sniff and inhale jet fuel deeply. But, it is true that many people connect the smell of jet fuel with wonderful vacations and happy memories. Some pregnant women even love this smell due to the hormonal changes in their bodies.
- Lemongrass. Lemongrass is used as a food ingredient and sometimes as a herbal tea. Its smell is not that vivid but it is noticeable nonetheless. It has a light refreshing smell that can sooth your nerve. Boil lemon grass and drink it to enjoy the effects of this soothing smell.
- Chamomile. Chamomile is a herb with relaxing properties. Not only does it have a soothing smell, but the extract you get after boiling chamomile has a calming effect on your body as well.
- Cucumbers. Ever wonder why spas lay slices of cucumber on your face? Out of all available vegetables and fruits? It is true that cucumber has skincare boosting properties, but its smell is also part of the reason. The smell of cucumber is considered soothing and freshening to many people.
- Cookies and baking. People usually associate newly baked cakes and cookies with the happiest thing ever, smiles on children’s faces. This why many housewives bake, for the smiles and the happy feelings rather than for the idea of making desserts filled with sugar, flour and saturated fat.
- Lavender is well known for its soothing scent. Therefore, it is common to find bath products and herbal teas in lavender scent. If you are suffering from insomnia, a warm bath to which you add a few drops of lavender oil will help you sleep in no time.
