Good nutrition during the first trimester of your pregnancy is the key for your health and your fetus health, and just like there are foods that you should make sure to eat during pregnancy, there are foods and drinks you should completely stay away from specially during the first trimester of your pregnancy. The following is a list of which foods and drinks you should avoid in your first trimester and why.

1- Processed Meats.

Processed meats like beef bacon, luncheon mean, hot dogs, salami, pepperoni and roast beef, as they contain minimal nutritional value in addition to lots of dying and salt to preserve it.

2- Fish.

Fish is a good source of protein and omrga-3 fatty acids however certain types of fish are high in mercury content which hinders the development of the nerve system for the unborn baby such as sword fish, tuna and mackerel fish.

3- Dates.

Dates should be avoided during the first trimester of pregnancy because it induce labor and cause miscarriages.

4- Uncooked Egg.

Avoid egg that is not well cooked s it could be a source of salmonella.

5- Vitamin A.

You should avoid foods rich in vitamin A like beef and chicken liver as well as vitamin A supplements as it’s concentration can cause birth defects.

6- Salt.

During pregnancy make sure to intake salt cautiously as it can cause high blood pressure and further problems during pregnancy.

7- Packed Juices and Milk.

Stay away from unpasteurized dairy products as it could carry e-coli bacteria as well as packed juices because they contain very high levels of Sugar that could cause gestational diabetes.

8- Caffeinated Beverages.

Caffeinated beverages such as coffee, tea and soda can cause problems for the proper development of the nervous system for the fetus.
