Sometimes shedding hair is caused by an underlying medical problem that you may not know of. In such case, you need first to get treatment for this issue; then regrowth will happen. If you cannot identify it, go to a doctor to help you find out what it is.

Commonly, the conditions causing hair loss are hormonal imbalances, thyroid problems and alopecia. Having plenty of protein in your diet is very important because it is the basic unit for healthy hair.

Vegetarians usually eat less protein than those eating meat and if you are a vegan, pay more attention to protein in your diet to ensure you get the needed amount. The healthy omega 3 fatty acids are essential for hair growth and if you do not get enough of it, your hair will look dull and brittle; try to incorporate it in your food on daily basis.

Not only will your hair benefit, but your skin as well. The best sources of omega 3 fatty acids are avocados, fatty fish and nuts and you can take fish oil supplements to increase your daily dose. Biotin supplements, which are composed of B vitamins, contribute significantly to healthy hair, and vitamin B12 in particular is crucial to hair regrowth. Animal products and fatty fish are rich in this vitamin and as for vegans, they better take supplements.

Not getting enough iron leads to a condition known as anemia that can result in hair loss in addition to many other symptoms. You need to pay attention to iron- rich foods such as red meat and leafy greens or take iron supplements to satisfy your daily needs.

Avoid washing your hair every day because this puts strain uncalled for on the hair follicles; you wash away the nourishing oils produced naturally by your scalp, plus you pull your hair in the washing process, dry it and comb it out while you should treat it gently and leave it alone. Try washing your hair every 3 days.
