Madrid’s Royal Palace

Madrid’s Royal Palace, known as Palacio Real, is not just the largest building in Madrid but it is also the largest royal palace in Western Europe. The palace was built on the land where the Moorish castle, the old Alcázar, used to be before being burnt down in 1734. The palace is one of the most important museums in Europe as it contains many important pieces of art and frescos. You can visit Madrid’s Royal Palace and its wonderful gardens as long as there is no official business happening.

The Debod Temple

It is astonishing to know that the Debod Temple located in Madrid is actually an Egyptian temple dating from the 2nd century BC and was devoted to Amon and Isis. Madrid got the temple as a donation from the Egyptian government in 1968 to thank Spain for helping to save Abu Simbel’s sacred possessions during the building of the great dam. Debod is currently located near Plaza de España decorated by carved reliefs and surrounded by a park where the Guadarrama mountains can be admired along with Madrid’s prettiest sunset.
