SOME TIPS TO HELP YOU MANAGE YOUR OILY SKIN

Our body produces oil to help keep the skin healthy, but excess oil can cause acne flare- ups and blemishes. Luckily, there are many ways to cut down oiliness, ranging from over- the- counter toners and cleansers to prescription treatments.

Dermatologists agree that cleansing your face both morning and night is the most effective way to manage oily skin. Gentle cleanser is recommended since harsh soaps can trigger increased oil production. Beware of the buff puff and washcloth because they stimulate more oily secretion.

If your basic facial cleanser is not effective enough, use a product that contains an acid like salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide or glycolic acid. Such products are labeled as acne facial care products. They are beneficial for people with acne and also for people with just oily skin.

You may have to try several products before you find the one that works best for you. Use warm water to wash your face not hot water, which can irritate your skin. If you like to use toners, you are advised to apply them only on the oily areas such as the nose, chin and forehead, and avoid using them on dry areas otherwise you will have dry patches on your skin. This advice is worth keeping in mind for all skin care regimens.

As a matter of fact, most people have combination skin, which means dry in some places and oily in others. Pads medicated with oil- cutting acid ingredients are a favorite among people with oily skin.

Blotting papers are another great option for reducing oil because they are easy to use and do not dry out your skin. A blotting paper is not to scrub your skin with, simply press it against the oily area to absorb oil for 15 to 20 seconds.
