The Risks Of Eating Smoked Meats

Smoked meats include some types of sausage, ham, bacon and some types of jerky, even though smoked meats can be really delicious, they can cause several health conditions including cancer, gastrointestinal infections, heart diseases and diabetes, if you have a family history of these types of diseases then you should be extra cautious with portion of smoked meats you add to your plate and avoid eating them regularly.

– High Risks Of Cancer.

Researchers found that people who eat large amounts of smoked meats regularly are at a higher risk of developing pancreatic , prostate, rectal and colon cancer, The National Cancer Institute notes that the increased risk of cancer from eating smoked meats can be associated with heterocyclic amines and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons which are two cancergenics that get into the meat as the fat and other juices from the meat drip over an opened fire.

Increased Risks Of Gastrointestinal Infection.

People who eat diets rich in smoked meats regularly are also more susceptible to developing Gastrointestinal Infections and while many types of bacterial infections can occur as a result of eating smoked meats, Listeria monocytogenes is a specially common condition which causes a loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea and respiratory problems.

E.coli contamination which cause bloody diarrhea can also occur when not proper hygiene is being practiced while preparing the smoked meats.

– Increased Risk Of Heart Diseases.

Similar to all foods that are high in salt, the sodium in salt can cause high blood pressure which by time can lead to several heat diseases;a healthy adult shouldn’t consume no more than 1500 milligrams of salt per day to maintain an optimal health.

– Increased Risk Of Diabetes.

Foods that are high in sodium and nonsalt preservatives like smoked meats are strongly associated with high risks of diabetes and specially type-2 diabetes , if you have a family history of diabetes you may be more likely to develop it more than people who don’t have a family history.
