Most cough syrup contain either alcohol or other ingredients that cause you to be drowsy. Some of the ingredients may not even be suitable for children so it is better to make your own cough syrup at home and believe me it works better than those over the counter ones specially with children.
#1. Honey, Glycerin and Lemon DIY Homemade Cough Syrup.
– What you will need.
Food grade glycerin.
Fresh lemon juice.
Jar for storage.
Whisk thoroughly quarter cup of each honey, food grade glycerin and fresh lemon juice then pour in the jar and store.
Take a tablespoon every four hours, however note that the honey is not recommended for children under one years old.
#2. Honey, Lemon and Ginger Homemade Cough Syrup.
Ginger works as decongestant and it also contain anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antibacterial and antioxidant properties which all help in inhibiting the virus or bacteria causing the cough.
– Ingredients you will need.
Two whole lemons.
Peel and slice one piece of ginger then grate or zest two whole lemons.
Pour one cup of water in a saucepan, add quarter cup of each Lemon zest and Ginger slices.
Allow the solution to boil then simmer for five minutes.
Take off the fire and strain the solution.
Pour one cup of raw honey in the saucepan and allow to heat but not boil.
Mix the juice of two lemons in the honey then add the solution of the ginger and the Lemon zest.
Stir all ingredients on low fire for five minutes then take off the fire.
Allow the syrup to cool then store in jars in the refrigerator and take one teaspoon of it every four hours.
