Let me start with the embarrassing confession that I used to be a coffee lover. I had all the symptoms, the inability to function if I don’t drink coffee, the headaches and mood swings if I don’t drink coffee for few days on a row, and even the kitchen apron with the slogan “I love you more than coffee but don’t make me prove it!”
However, coffee caused me some health problems and I had to look for better alternatives, such as:
1- If you are polish, then you must have already heard about Naturalis INKA. It is an instant grain drink that has been known and consumed by Polish families for ages. It is made of Roasted Barley, Rye, Beets and Chicory Root.
2- Black tea, green tea, red tea, white tea, matcha green tea and all the wonderful varieties of tea that come from the wonderful Chinese camellia sinesis plant. These are all healthy but the levels of “healthiness” are varied from one type to another. However, any of them is a great alternative for coffee.
3- Cafix is one of my favorite coffee substitutes. It is very similar in flavor to coffee. It also has a big list of good no’s (no GMO ingredients, no acidity, no artificial sweeteners). It is made of chicory, barley, figs, malted barley and extracts of beet.
4- The herbal dandelion beverage Dandy Blend is also a good coffee substitute with a list of good “free’s”. It is acidity free, gluten free, bitterness free and caffeine free. As you might have already guessed from its name, it is made of roasted roots of dandelion along with chicory, beets, and the grains of barley and rye.
